“It is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all”
This is profound, and it literally endorses an emotion that is so intense and so innate to our own human nature; love. So what is love, then? Is it in the silly, lighthearted occasions when your unchosen guardians gift you the exact makeup brush you’ve been gawking over for weeks online (true story by the way) and you love them for knowing you and and knowing the truest you, and that entails knowing your hearts desire, no matter how shallow and slightly materialistic (but efficient!) it may be. OR is love more profound than that, is it laying down one’s life for the sake of the world’s redemption, is it standing in the rain with an umbrella tucked eagerly beneath your fist, waiting for that oh so special someone to return home to light the path home together with sounds of delight and euphoria. Or is it when you firmly decide you’re no longer famished and malnourished after toiling through a 14-hour day because tiny hands grapple with the pantry door for replenishment but the barren shelves and depleated naked side doors howl and give way to the poverty and desolation within the halls, and there is only but just enough to feed one. Yes, love is many and all of these things, and it is a testimony and living proof that indeed mankind can be good, and is good. But, then, what of you, when your love is betrayed? Your heart was turned away, or your love denied because it was simply unwanted? The heartache will be devastating, cruel and unforgiving, but it will subside, and whether you choose to entrust your love unto another being is a decision you have to make all on your own; but allow me to guide you towards a decision; the right one, the good one–It is better to have known love, to have had love and to have given love, then to have lived a life without it. Because a selfish, loveless life, is simply not worth the living.
